Exciting youth about the working world

In September 2009 , at a community function for stakeholders Partners Porirua celebrated the completion of another year of school/ business partnerships.

Michelle Robinson, Project Manager for Partners Porirua said schools, business links play a part in ensuring that young people of today gain a better understanding of what will be required in the workforce of tomorrow.

Seeing how science and technology taught at school actually relates to the working world is also important. “These relationships show teachers, students and parents what skills, qualifications and attributes are needed in the workforce. If our young people can be better prepared and better qualified for the jobs available we all benefit from an improved economic climate.”

Partnerships included:

Bishop Viard College, The Sustainability Trust and Keep Porirua Beautiful

ESR and Plimmerston School

Paramata School and the Porirua City Library

Rangikura School and Geological and Nuclear Science
