Youth Transition Service
Well Supported!
Continued government support means Partners Porirua can continue its Youth Transition Service in Porirua. Since funding began Partners Porirua has developed a programme which allows it to increase its activities each year and targets further audiences such as teachers, parents, employers and the students themselves.
The independent auditors of the pilot work done by Partners Porirua reported that “project staff are continuing to build relationships with a growing number of employers and target industries, and are achieving successful outcomes which meet both employer and participant needs and interests. The project, and its staff, has a positive public profile, and the project is well regarded by stakeholders including project participants, and continues to build credibility."
“While there are plenty of job placement organisations out there, one of our key strengths has been our relationships with the business sector, the schools and the training providers” said Michelle Robinson, of Partners Porirua. “Our objective isn’t just a job placement right now, we want to focus more on the long term and get young people thinking about their futures. If that means going back to school to gain more qualifications or going onto tertiary education then that’s just as good an outcome for us.
Government's recently announced incentives to promote youth employment have been well received in Porirua. Partners Porirua is well placed to benefit from a number of schemes which encourage youth employment in community organisations and allow employers a financial incentive to employ young people.
