We are often asked why it’s important to develop partnerships between schools and business. After all, school, particularly at primary and intermediate level is about education, not workforce development.

Yes, that’s true, but it’s also true that unless we excite children and young people about the working world, we may find it difficult to motivate them to undertake any education or personal development.

It’s also a fact that young people need to understand options and make choices about their education. For some thirteen year olds, the working world is only two or three years away and they need to understand, for example, that science and maths are important subjects for their career options.

We provide opportunities for students to undertake special projects with socially responsible businesses here in Porirua. We help teachers demonstrate a practical application to education by partnering them with organisations who use science and technology for profit.
